Jewelry Makeover: Frequently Asked Questions
CAN YOU MELT MY GOLD AND TURN IT INTO A NEW JEWEL?
Yes! We can melt your solid gold pieces into an ingot and transform it into something completely new. If your gold is alloyed (mixed with other metals), we may refine it back to pure gold first and then blend it into one of our custom alloys like— 22-karat yellow, 18-karat deep yellow, or 18-karat light yellow. Alternatively, you can use the gold as credit toward any jewelry project or materials, whether it’s sterling silver, white gold, platinum, or even gemstones.
CAN YOU BUY MY SMALL DIAMONDS?
We do not buy them outright, but we can offer a credit if they are worth removing from their setting. Keep in mind that smaller accent diamonds may not be valuable enough to offset the labor costs of removal. Our first step is always to value them and help you make the best decision.
CAN YOU CREDIT ME FOR MY GOLD AND DIAMONDS?
Yes! If you are using your gold to purchase a piece from our collection, we will provide a 100% credit for its material value. For gemstones, we can also offer a credit, though the amount depends on their quality and value. (See our answer above about small diamonds for more details.)
WILL THE CREDIT EQUAL WHAT I ORIGINALLY PAID FOR THE JEWELRY?
No, and here’s why: When jewelry is made, the price includes materials, labor, design, and the brand’s provenance. Appraisals, like the ones used for insurance purposed, reflect the replacement value—what it would cost to remake the piece at retail prices. However, if you are selling or recycling jewelry, what you get back is the liquid value—the worth of the materials alone. It’s important to understand this difference, as liquid value is certainly much lower than the original purchase price or appraisal value.
CAN I BRING IN A DIAMOND FROM AN INHERITED PIECE OF JEWELRY?
Absolutely. We love recycling and repurposing. Whether it’s from an old ring or a gift you don’t wear, we'll work with you to create something meaningful and new.
CAN I BUY A LOOSE DIAMOND AND BRING IT TO YOU?
No, we only use diamonds that meet our standards for quality and responsibility. All of our diamonds are certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and carefully selected. Without knowing the exact source of your diamond, we can’t ethically incorporate it into our jewelry and label it as responsibly sourced.
CAN I SUPPLY MY OWN DIAMOND MELEE?
Unfortunately, no. Diamond melee (the smaller diamonds used for accents) is not typically certified, so each stone would need to be individually examined by our gemologist to verify its quality, origin, and whether it’s natural or lab-grown. The time and cost of this process make it impractical. To maintain the integrity of our brand, we curate all the materials for our pieces.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
What is your favorite car or dream car? Would you ever ask Jaguar if you could supply some of the parts to bring the costs down? Maybe you have a guy who’s an expert car-parts dealer. But Jaguar wouldn't use parts they didn’t source themselves— they couldn't guarantee the same quality or craftsmanship.
Our Labor— Do you love silk dresses or custom made suits? Do you typically ask Valentino for the price per yard for the silk? Have you ever asked Armani for the price of their fabrics and compared it to the amount for a finished suit? How about fine art investing—do you find yourself curious about the price per tube of acrylic vs. watercolor paint and then question the price of the painting?
